Mrs. America – A flashback to the 1970s
Our favorite new binge is Mrs. America. It airs on FX but you can also watch it on Hulu.
Mrs. America is a portrait of Phyllis Schlafly, the mother of the modern anti-feminist movement and the leaders of the women’s movement in the 1970’s. The casting, hair, makeup and costuming is remarkable. The acting and writing are too.
The side by sides are spot on.
And the opening, which is 70s-tastic!
And while we’re at it – Woody Allen and Diane Keaton
Criterion Channel has a collection this month called ’70s Style Icons. The movies included are Performance, Shaft, Klute, What’s Up Doc?, Foxy Brown, Three Days of the Condor, Shampoo, The Man Who Fell To Earth, A Star is Born, Welcome To l.A., Thank God It’s Friday, Eyes of Laura Mars, and one of our favorites, Anne Hall.
One of Elaine’s high points on social media!
Shout out to Essential Workers
Sunday was the third time since we have been sheltered at home that we had our groceries delivered. We had a few a few problems with Whole Foods early on through Amazon, so we switched to Ralph’s. We still miss our staples from Trader Joe’s. They are not delivering. But Ralph’s has been great. Today our order was filled by Ahmed H. He texted us while he shopped and we decided together which items to refund and which to replace when our first choices were out of stock.
Make sure to use Instacart (where Ahmed works) or whatever service you prefer and give them a great review or shout out to their boss!
And reach out to your reps and vote for people who recognize that these essential workers need crisis pay, full medical coverage and a living wage.
Let that be a good thing to come out of these hard times
Enjoy some of the highlights of our virtual trip to Ralph’s with Ahmet.
Finales
There were some excellent finales this week. If you haven’t caught up, it’s a great time to do a full binge (to date) of The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul and the superb The Plot Against America.
