Thanks for the overwhelming response to our first (rough) episodes. Starting with this episode we are getting help with the sound from “Johnny Stromboli.” Through the magic of Dropbox, Johnny ( or as I used to call him when he was a baby, John-O) is going to be able to clean up our sound from his home studio in Seattle. We hope this episode is easier on the ear. Please check out John’s music on Soundcloud.

What should we talk about?

We’ve been asking for your feedback. It seems that our audience is split. Many of you like our TV and movie recommendations. But, just as many, if not more, really just like hearing us talk. As one listener pointed out, in a time where we are so isolated, it’s like a visit from friends.
So, we’ve decided to do a little of both.
We’ll talk about what we are up to and how we are coping during lockdown, AND we’ll try to throw in recommendations too! We are listening to YOU. Tell us what you want us to talk about, and we’ll do our best to Make It So! T and E

In this episode we talk about Travis’s adventure at Walgreens, and his unconventional texting habit with his granddaughter.

Off to Walgreens on “Senior Day!”

Our favorite Rom-Com

Billy Wilder’s The Apartment. You can rent it on Prime or Youtube for $2.99. We found a free copy on Youtube but the quality was crap. If you use the ATT app to get your live TV, it is free via TCM.

If you want to take a deeper dive, we recommend this excellent analysis.

Rossellini’s Love Letter to Resistance

Rome Open City: Roberto Rossellini’s masterpiece of Neo-realism is a harrowing drama about the Nazi occupation of Rome and the brave resistance! Bella Ciao!
Rent for $2.99 from Youtube or watch for free on Filmbox that comes free with your Prime membership. You can also find it on Youtube for free or rental. It is free on our favorite channel, Criterion Channel along with several videos about the film and Rossellini.

The Trailer

If you want to learn more about Rome Open City and Neo-realism and how it fits into the larger history of film during WWII, we highly recommend this video.

Alternate history or a stern warning?

One of our favorite new shows is The Plot Against America. The geniuses who brought us The Wire take a look at an America where FDR lost re-election to Charles Lindbergh. With top-notch writing and acting, TPAG pulls no punches. Watch on HBO.
