This week was different

In this episode, we check out Gomorrah, Zero Zero Zero, The History of Horror and Twist.
But first… We saw friends! It was an undertaking between us and another couple who have also been quarantined since March. We devised an elaborate outdoor plan of side gate entry, 20 ft between us and double masks. It was a gay old time!
We even got to see our old pal Ulfie!

Gomorrah

HBO Max released Season 3 of the Italian hit show Gomorrah this week. They also have Seasons 1 and 2. We’ve been touting this show for a long time, especially since its star Salvatore Esposito had his U.S. breakout this year in Season 4 of Fargo.
We can’t recommend this series highly enough. The 3 seasons available now in the U.S. will be followed up by a Season 4, and a 5th and final season will air this year around the world, hopefully here in the states.
Gomorrah was created by Leonardo Fasoli, Stefano Bises, and Roberto Saviano (based in his book.)
It stars Salvatore Esposito, Marco D’Amore, Fortunato Cerlino, Marco Palvetti, Maria Pia Calzone and Cristiana Dell’Anna.

As promised…

The piano theme.

The song that’s played over the end credits.

Zero Zero Zero

While researching Gomorrah, we discovered that one of our favorite shows last year was ZeroZeroZero. (Amazon Prime) was created by Gomorrah creator Leonardo Fasoli and adapted by the book by Roberto Saviano.
The series follows a $60 million cocaine shipment from production to delivery through the eyes of the sellers (the Mexican cartel producing the drug), the brokers (a New Orleans shipping family transporting the coke), and the buyers (the Italian mafia purchasing the shipment). The show is in three languages and boasts an international cast including Andrea Riseborough, Dane DeHaan, and Gabriel Byrne as the American family, Adriano Chiaramida, and Giuseppe De Domenico as the Italian family and  Harold Torres in Mexico, and Tchéky Karyo, Sedina Balde in France.
ZeroZeroZero is still available for a binge on Prime.

Eli Roth’s History of Horror

Eli Roth’s History of Horror is currently available on AMC + and Shudder.
Hosted by Eli Roth, this series, now in its 3rd season, takes a deep dive into the horror genre but is really a history of film. It features an all-star cast of talking heads, including Greg Nicotero, Rob Zombie, Bryan Fuller, Mick Garris, Stephen King, Leonard Maltin, Joe Hill, Quentin Tarantino, and
John Landis,
It’s a great binge, or you can pick and choose between your favorite genres and sub-genres like Body Horror– lots of Cronenberg in that one. Or Chilling Children that starts with one of our all-time favs, “Rhoda” from The Bad Seed.

Twist

Last but not least, we found this little gem on Criterion Channel this week. You can grab it there until the end January (2021) and after that you can rent it for $3.99 on Prime.
