We watched a lot of smart and sexy TV this week. Peacock launched with it’s original series, BRAVE NEW WORLD and Perry Mason turned a corner. But first…
Happy Anniversary To Us!
This week we went outside!! We went to a Drive-in! In our car!
Here are a few pix, as promised!
Let’s all go… (we brought our own food!)
We had a great time celebrating our 14th anniversary. If Drive-ins are popping up near you, do your research, be safe, and give it a try! It really recharged our batteries. Most Drive In’s show double features, and kids are welcome!
The movie we saw at the drive-in was Palm Springs with Andy Samberg. You can catch it at a drive-in near you or sitting on your sofa since it was simultaneously released on HULU.Â
The Peacock has landed. BRAVE NEW WORLD
The Peacock Network launched wide on July 15th and the first Peacock Original we checked out was the series Brave New World.
What is Peacock and how do I get it?
The Peacock Network is NBC’s streaming app. Get it? Peacock?
Peacock was soft-launched to Comcast customers April 15th and wide, this week. It’s available on Xbox One devices, including the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV 4K, and Apple TV HD.
Peacock is also web browser friendly if you are running recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, MS Edge, and Safari. You can use the Peacock app on Android tablets, newer models of Android TVs, LG Smart TVs, and Vizio TVs with SmartCast and Chromecast-enabled devices.
On June 20th Peacock became available on Playstation 4.Â
But Hey! What about FireTV and Roku?
As of this date, Peacock is not available on the menu for Firestick/TV or Roku. NBC is blaming the streaming platforms, blah blah… who cares. Below you’ll find the instructions on how to add Peacock to your device.
FireTV/Firestick or Roku
Get your Firestick (we highly recommend) or Roku clicking o the images below.
Is Peacock worth it?
You decide! Let’s break it down. Peacock has 3 levels:
Cost $0
This level is an ad-supported version that includes about 7,500 hours of programming. This tier includes full runs of older series, movies, daily news, and sports programming (including the Olympics,)
Spanish-language content; and samples of select Peacock original programming,
curated genre channels like SNL Vault, Family Movie Night, and Olympic Profiles.
Content at this tier will not be available in 4K/HDR.
Cost $5 a month or
FREE if you are a Comcast Xfinity TV and broadband subscriber (via Flex.) or
FREE if you are a Comcast or Cox subscriber.
This level includes everything in Peacock Free along with next-day access to current seasons of new NBC series, live sports programming that includes Premier League events, full access to Peacock Original Series, and a more extensive library of new, classic, and licensed content (approximately 15,000 hours total). This level does have ads. All versions of the Premium tier will stream content in 4K/HDR.
Peacock Premium Plus offers everything in the Premium tier in an ad-free line that costs an additional $5 per month. This tier will also offer subscribers the ability to watch Peacock content offline on mobile devices.
Brave New World
We binged the entire season/series(?) of the Peacock original, Brave New World.
Brave New World, is based on Aldous Huxley’s 1932 novel but is uncannily current. Made us wonder how the residents of “New London” would have reacted to our current situation! We think the sound of Soma Pez dispensers would be deafening!
Did we like it? Hell yeah.
And not just because of the ubiquitous sex and orgies.
Brave New World is well worth your time for Harry Lloyd alone, who gives a fantastic performance as Bernard Marx.
You may remember Harry from Game of Thrones. He’s pretty hard to forget! But, if you don’t recognize him, we talked about his pivotal role in GOT in the last episode and even more this week. The rest of the cast is top-notch too.
Alden Ehrenreich as John AKA The Savage
Jessica Brown Findlay as Lenina
Nina Sosanya as Mustafa Mond
Joseph Morgan as CJack60
Sen Mitsuji as Henry Foster
Kylie Bunbury as Frannie
Hannah John-Kamen as Wilhelmina ‘Helm’ Watson (no she is not the actor we confused her with on the show, but she does have an impressive resume and is gorgeous in BNW.)
And finally, yeah, that’s Demi Moore as John’s mother, Linda. It took us a minute to recognize her!
Perry Turns the Corner
There was so much jammed into this Episode 5 of Perry Mason , and we touched on it all. We dipped our toe a little deeper into spoiler territory this week. So, if you are a stickler about such things, you might wanna make sure you watch the episode before listening. Here’s a still from one of our favorite moments.
And who is this guy???
Do you hear what Elaine hears?
Finally, what Elaine has been waiting for. Take a listen here and see if you agree with Elaine’s prediction.
What’s new in Stromboli-land?
Elaine chatted with our own Johnny Stromboli last week about his new song. “Sycophantic.”
He describes it this way.
“It’s a song I wrote about Trump’s sycophants in the White House and Congress. It has a layered Devo/KrautRock kinda vibe with lots of cyclical vocal harmonies. It features Izaak Mills AKA Daed Haut on sax and piccolo – recorded remotely from his apartment in Brooklyn. All other instruments and vocals are me.”
Check it out!
